XR stands for "extra rare," and the blend contains liquid from the final batch whiskies made at LaSalle Distillery, which ceased production in 1993-and where Crown Royal master blender Andrew Mackay learned his craft as an apprentice. This plush sipper needs a little time in the glass to open up and a judicious splash of water, rewarding with layers that unfold rich caramel, brown sugar and vanilla bean, finishing long with citrus peel and brisk spice.
