Very pretty golden color; impeccable purity. Opening inhalations detect green tea and earthy/leafy notes of delicacy and grace; later sniffs after seven minutes of aeration encounter sweeter aromas, especially brown sugar, cotton candy and marzipan. Entry is slightly oily, piquant and spicy; midpalate showcases assertive flavors of vanilla bean, clove, dates, and dried apricot. Concludes elegantly, with a touch of the oil noted at the entry.
After regular maturation, this Scotch is "extra matured" in former rum casks. The end result layers rich, mouth-coating dried apricot, honey and Sherry notes on top of Balvenie's usual caramel and light peat profile. It finishes flavorful, though with a distinct burst of alcohol warmth.
